MORE THAN 50 INTERESTED COMPANIES ATENDED THE ANOUNCEMENT OF ENERGY PURCHASE IN GUATEMALA FOR THE PERIOD 2016-2020

On January 28, 2016, the 3 electric distribution companies in Guatemala, publicly announced a new bidding process for the purchase of 237 Megawatts of Capacity for the period beginning on May 2016 and ending on May 2020.

The schedule is very thigh, considering the offers will be presented on March 31st 2016.

With a large number of attendants, this news where received with high expectation form agents of the electric sector, seeking for contracts with stable prices and not being subject to volatility of spot prices recently depressed due to oil prices fall and excess of energy in the spot market.

Per law, distribution companies have to contract their needs for their demand for the next years, and for this process they expect lower prices than the ones in the last processes.

There is no doubt that the Electric Sector in Guatemala has a non-stopping inertia, that continues interesting local and foreign investors.
